Revel Concerta2 F36 Review: The Tower Speakers That Will Stun You

Revel has been one of the highly recognized American audio speakers companies in the world, with many audiophiles and audio industry mavens supporting their stunning, beautifully crafted, great sounding audio speakers. This company has been going on for 20 years now and it is a sure thing that they will go further in favouring their customers.

Revel Concerta2 F36

Described as ‘affordable high-end’ does this flagship from Revel’s new Concerta2 range punch above its weight?

The £2000 loudspeaker market is becoming an increasingly competitive place, and manufacturers now have to work harder than ever to ensure their products stand out from the crowd. One such is Harman International, and one of the loudspeaker brands bearing its technological know-how is Revel.

Revel offers a warm welcome

The Harman group of audio brands has some big-hitting names, including Mark Levinson and JBL Synthesis, the latter creating ultra high-end home cinema systems that would be right near the top of my list if I were to win the lottery. The Revel speaker name is, I'm sure, less well known. But it's also likely to get the attention of those on more down-to-earth budgets.

Low profile, high quality

We're surprised a brand such as Revel hasn't made a bigger impact on the UK speaker market. All the ingredients for success seem to be in place: the products are well made, solidly engineered and, in our experience, tend to sound good.

Shipping speakers to the UK might once have seemed as rewarding as carting coals to Newcastle, but the times they are a changing.

JBL, Revel, Mark Levinson, and Arcam Demos at TAVES 2015

If there’s one constant with any demo I’ve heard involving JBL, Revel, and Mark Levinson gear, it’s how close to perfection the systems manage to come. At the TAVES 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Toronto, JBL/Harman’s top-notch systems continued a perfect track record of blowing me away with their fidelity.

Revel F206 Review
Plus

Revel F206 is well-balanced speakers playing with a fine balance while both life and dynamism. Here are no excesses or spectacular trends, but it does not reproduction boring. On the contrary, the playing style modern and engaging.

Minus

The neutral version may be little monitor-like, if you angle the speakers very inward. The bass is clean and cash, but do not abysmally down.

Revel M106 Review

The first product I reviewed for the SoundStage! Network was a pair of Revel loudspeakers, back in 2006. The F12 was a member of Revel’s first line of entry-level speakers, the Concertas, then newly introduced. (A successor line, Concerta2, was launched at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show.) I liked the Concerta F12, but at the time I’m not sure I appreciated just how good it was, especially for the price: $1198 USD per pair. For several years I wanted to review another Revel model, but SoundStage! Hi-Fi hadn’t reviewed anything from the company since 2009, when Doug Schneider wrote about the Ultima2 Salon2.

Revel Lincoln Review

The Lincoln Motor Company has always had the reputation for providing a quiet ride. Its engineers pride themselves on clever engineering and thoughtful design solutions to deliver one of the quietest cabins on the road—which is something most luxury drivers crave. Even before you turn the key on a Lincoln, its interior is designed so that you can take refuge from the hectic world outside.

Revel Performa3 F206 Review

See you always meet twice in life - this experience have so many been able to experience or need. Before I begin with the test, I must therefore only announce my personal coming-out.

It is not about a statement like once in Biolek, Kerkeling, Westerwelle or Hitzelberger. I was there and that as a founding member of Sun Audio mid-1980s. As a former business student and hi-fi enthusiast, I have to build the now well-established company successfully accompanied two years and then sold my shares. This information do I owe you, and I promise to be at least as critical as with all other manufacturers and distributors at the same time against their products.

As far as the prehistoric times to the telephone conversation with Philipp Krauspenhaar, the head of Sun Audio, when he asked me if I'm interested in a test of the F-206th This type designation I initially thought more like a Formula One racer from Maranello, but soon I was informed that this was the second largest model in the series Performa 3 of the renowned American manufacturer REVEL.

Harman Rocks Hard with New Revel, JBL, Levinson Offerings

To say that Harman (NYSE:HAR) was getting meaty at the recent 2015 International CESwould be an understatement.

Off site from the main venues at the show, the company took over a massive ballroom at the Hard Rock Hotel, which was an apropos location for its powerful lineup of new equipment from Mark Levinson, Revel and JBL Synthesis. Besides displaying multiple automobiles featuring its audio systems in the ballroom there were large demo rooms to blast music demos, which also included AMX equipment.

Revel Concerta2 CES 2015 Review

Revel's "entry-level" speaker line gets its first refresh in eight years, with many design and engineering improvements.

Ever since I first heard Revel speakers—one of Harman's brands from its Luxury Audio Group—I've been enamored of their smooth, open, clean sound. At CES this year, I was pleased to hear the new Concerta2 line, the first update to Revel's "entry-level" Concerta series in eight years.

Revel’s Concerta2 brings luxury sound and feel at an approachable price point

The luxury audio industry has suffered the same public perception problem for decades: only audiophiles understand them. No wonder, when speakers cost as much as an economy car, people are easily turned away. Fortunately, the last few years have seen some luxury audio brands utilizing a principle the luxury auto industry figured out long ago: offer an accessible entry point into a luxury brand to attract new customers, then convert them into fans for life. Revel, one of the most well-regarded names in loudspeakers, is doing just that with the Concerta2 series.

REVEL’S NEW CONCERTA2 SPEAKERS ADD STYLE AND PERFORMANCE WITHOUT BREAKING THE BANK

We’ve already discussed the exciting video trends that emerged from this year’s International CES: vast improvements in the usability and simplicity of television user interfaces; quantum leaps in color reproduction and dynamic range. Stepping back and reflecting on the show, though, I’m starting to see that there was a pretty undeniable trend in the audio world, too: a wealth of incredibly high-performance speakers for not a lot of money. GoldenEar bowed its incredible Triton Five. Paradigm finally unveiled its Prestige 55C center speaker, rounding out the impressive new line.  And Revel introduced a complete revamp of its affordable (but oh-so-sweet-sounding) Concerta series, dubbed Concerta2.

SoundStage! 2014 Products of the Year: An Unfiltered Explanation

Everyone is releasing their Products of the Year lists right about now, and we’re no different. Doug Schneider’s “Opinion” article, over onSoundStage! Hi-Fi, gave you the bare-bones facts about which product won which category. Here atSoundStage! Ultra, though, I’d like to get down to some unfiltered remarks about these components. So consider this article the insider’s edition of our Product of the Year awards list: what my thoughts were as we picked them.

2014 Products of the Year -- and My Favorite Album of the Year

I’m not foolish enough to think that, if I wrote an article focusing only on my favorite music releases of 2014, many people would read it. What audiophiles want from their hi-fimagazines, print or online, are articles about gear, gear, and more gear -- which means that music reviews or articles, no matter how well written, are often passed by. So to give my pick for best album of 2014 as much exposure as possible, I’m putting it right at the top of this annual article about the winners of our Product of the Year awards.

Is the Future of High End Audio in Automobiles?

At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Mercedes showed off its self-driving concept car, the Mercedes-Benz F 015.  When the car is in driverless mode, you can rotate the seats to face each other as you would in a living room.

I know of no other loudspeaker that offers this much performance at this price."—Erick Lichte

Recommended Reference Component: Revel Performa3 F206 Loudspeakers

If you heard that you could, for a very affordable price, buy a loudspeaker with reference-class neutrality, cutting-edge clarity, and breathtaking transparency, while sacrificing only a couple areas of performance that might not be important to you anyway, would you jump at the chance to own it -- or at least try your best to hear it? That kind of sound quality is precisely what can be heard from the Performa3 F206 loudspeaker -- a compact, incredibly accomplished floorstander that sells for just $3500 USD per pair and can easily compare with topflight speakers costing much more. The F206 comes from Revel, a well-known US speaker brand established in the 1990s, and whose Salon2 loudspeaker was the very first product to be included in our list of Recommended Reference Components.
